A 450 square foot duplex on Greenwich Street, built in 1849, was brought back to life. The layout was reconfigured to comfortably house a kitchen with full size appliances (fridge with freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, farmhouse sink, and under cabinet wine fridge), a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a living room with an integrated dining banquette. The original brick work and wood beams were revealed and rehabilitated, and the window well in the lower level (which, in its prior life, was a functioning coal shoot) was transformed into a niche for firewood. Custom millwork maximized square footage and storage, and the original architectural details were enhanced by classic materials and a traditional color palette. The restored apartment honors both its history and neighborhood, while modern amenities provide a newfound sense of luxury.
